Who needs a UK Responsible Person?
If your business is based outside the United Kingdom and you sell products to customers in Great Britain, you almost certainly need one. This applies to:
- Non-UK manufacturers placing products on the GB market
- Amazon UK, eBay UK, Etsy, TikTok Shop and Shopify sellers shipping into Great Britain — marketplaces require responsible person details before your listings can stay live
- EU-based brands that previously relied on EU compliance before Brexit
- US, Canadian and Chinese sellers supplying UK marketplaces
- Anyone selling consumer products covered by UK product safety rules
Without a UK-based responsible person, your products cannot legally be placed on the Great Britain market — no matter how compliant the product itself is.
What the rules actually require
Since Brexit, Great Britain operates its own product safety regime separately from the EU. UKCA marking replaced CE marking for the GB market, and UK product safety legislation requires a responsible person established in the UK for many product categories.
That person is the point of contact for the Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS) and local Trading Standards. They hold your technical documentation, produce it on request, and act if a product is found unsafe. Appointing one does not transfer your legal responsibility as manufacturer — it makes you reachable and auditable inside the UK.

What must appear on your packaging
Once appointed, your UK Responsible Person’s name and UK address must be visible to the customer and to authorities. In practice that means:
- On the product itself, or on the packaging where the product is too small
- In the user manual or accompanying documentation
- In the “Responsible Person” field in Amazon Seller Central and equivalent marketplace fields
- On your UKCA Declaration of Conformity
You use our UK address for all of these. Most clients update their labels at their next print run and their marketplace listings immediately.
UK Responsible Person or EU Authorised Representative — which do you need?
They are separate legal requirements under separate regimes. Selling into Great Britain requires a UK Responsible Person. Selling into the European Union requires an EU Authorised Representative. Post-Brexit, one does not cover the other.

Product categories we cover
We accept all product categories:

- Toys — UK toy safety rules and the EN 71 series
- Cosmetics and skincare — including UK cosmetics notification via SCPN

- Medical devices and health-adjacent products
- Food supplements and food-contact materials
- Drones, lasers and pyrotechnics — categories with additional restrictions

Common mistakes we see
- Assuming your EU representative covers Great Britain. Since Brexit these are two separate regimes. An EU Authorised Representative has no standing with UK authorities.
- Assuming CE marking is still enough for GB. UKCA is the GB conformity route, and conformity marking is separate from the requirement to have a UK-based responsible person.
- Using a freight forwarder or 3PL address. A warehouse address is not a responsible person unless there is a signed mandate naming them for that role.
- Adding the details to the listing but not the packaging. The responsible person must appear on the product or packaging and in the documentation — not only in Seller Central.
- Ignoring an OPSS or Trading Standards letter. These have deadlines. Missing them escalates quickly to withdrawal or recall.
- Waiting for enforcement. Most sellers contact us after Amazon UK blocks a listing. Appointing in advance costs the same and avoids the lost revenue.
UK Authorised Representative or UK Responsible Person?
These are the same role under two different names, and the confusion is understandable. In the EU the legal term is Authorised Representative. When Great Britain established its own regime after Brexit, UK legislation adopted the term Responsible Person instead — but many sellers, marketplaces and suppliers still say “UK Authorised Representative” out of habit.
If you have been told you need a UK Authorised Representative, a UK Authorized Representative (US spelling), a UKRP, or a UK Responsible Person, they all describe the same requirement: a person or company established in the United Kingdom who holds your technical documentation, appears on your product labelling, and answers to the Office for Product Safety & Standards on your behalf.

Compliance by product category
We accept all product categories. These are the ones with additional requirements beyond standard representation:
